How Do I Get My ISP License in Kenya? Application Requirements

Your best option for becoming an Internet service provider (ISP) start-up is to create a regional wireless internet service provider. This internet network is easier to establish and install because it mainly uses a series of close-range antennas.

You can get an ISP license by sending a license application to the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA). CA is in charge of licensing all network providers and telecommunication systems. The CA authorizes the ISP license to set up the internet and provide network services to third parties according to the license rules and regulations.

An application is deemed received when the authority accepts the application fees and issues a receipt that shows the applicant has met all the requirements.

5 Steps to Follow to Get an ISP License

To get an ISP license in Kenya, you have to follow the five steps as stated below:

1. Obtain a license as an application service provider.

2. Obtain an official receipt.

3. Pay an application fee.

4. Pay for your license.

5. Obtain a license as an application service provider.

Once an application is accepted, it undergoes processing, which may include publication in Kenya in accordance with the law. After the licensing process, an applicant is informed of the outcome in writing.

Conditions for Application of ISP License in Kenya

The application form contains information about the requirements for accepting an application for your ISP license as well as the application fee. Applications are sent via post, where you will be required to log in as letters when the applicable license fee is received.

Usually, all Kenyan applicants for a commercial permit should meet four requirements as highlighted below:

1. The structure should be registered in Kenya as a company, trader proprietorship, or partnership.

2. You must have a duly registered office in Kenya as well as permanent premises.

3. You should provide some details about your shareholders and your directors.

4. Provide evidence of compliance with tax requirements.

After you meet all the conditions, the entire process takes approximately five to seven weeks, from application to an appearance before ISP judges. After these seven weeks, the license will be ready to be collected from the ISP Communication Authority of Kenya.

An Internet service provider (ISP) is a company that provides internet connections and services to an individual or organization. They also offer software packages like browsers, email accounts, and personal websites. ISPs are all connected through networking access points and public network facilities on the internet.
